White House to restrict travel from India

The White House will restrict travel from India starting at midnight on Tuesday, May 4, White House press secretary Jen Psaki announced on Friday.

Driving the news: The Biden administration cited a steep rise in coronavirus cases in the country and the possible emergence of multiple variants.


Why it matters: India is currently facing the worst coronavirus outbreak in the world and reporting records for most confirmed cases in a single day.

What she's saying: "On the advice of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the administration will restrict travel from India starting immediately," Psaki said.
