Prince Philip, husband of Queen Elizabeth II, dies at 99

The United Kingdom's Prince Philip, the Duke of Edinburgh, has died at 99, Buckingham Palace announced Friday.

The big picture: Philip, the husband of U.K. monarch Queen Elizabeth II, spent 28 days in the hospital with an infection before being released last month.


What they're saying: "It is with deep sorrow that Her Majesty The Queen has announced the death of her beloved husband, His Royal Highness The Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh. His Royal Highness passed away peacefully this morning at Windsor Castle."
