Judge dismisses FTC's antitrust complaint against Facebook

A federal district judge on Monday dismissed the Federal Trade Commission's antitrust complaint alleging Facebook engaged in anticompetitive practices.

Driving the news: The D.C. Court judge described the FTC's complaint as "legally insufficient" in making the case that Facebook has monopoly power in the personal social network market.


What's next: The order notes the FTC can refile its complaint.

  • Facebook is also facing an antitrust lawsuit brought by state attorneys general.

Which states have banned trans youth in sports

Eight states this year have banned transgender kids from playing on sports teams that match their gender identity, per data from the ACLU and bipartisan LGBTQ advocacy group Freedom For All Americans.

Why it matters: So far, almost all of the record number of bills targeting trans youth that have actually passed are focused on sports, suggesting that more laws of this kind could be incoming.
