Jesse and Jacqueline Jackson "responding positively" to hospital's COVID treatment

The Rev. Jesse Jackson and his wife, Jacqueline Jackson, were "responding positively" to treatment Sunday — one day after being hospitalized with COVID-19, their son said.

Details: Physicians at the Northwestern Memorial Hospital in Chicago were "carefully monitoring" the 79-year-old civil rights leader and Jacqueline Jackson "especially because of their ages," said Jonathan Jackson in a statement Sunday.

  • The two-time presidential candidate and his 77-year-old wife were both vaccinated against the virus in January.
  • Jonathan Jackson did not disclose the treatment that his parents were receiving.

The big picture: People who have not been vaccinated against the virus comprise the vast majority of coronavirus cases and hospitalizations in the U.S.

Editor's note: This article has been updated with more details on the Jacksons' conditions and further context on COVID-19 cases and hospitalizations in the U.S.

But an analysis of "voluminous telecom and travel data" by Bellingcat suggests the poisoning with the nerve agent Novichok “was mandated at the highest echelons of the Kremlin."
