Hong Kong's pro-democracy newspaper Apple Daily announced its closure on Wednesday.

Driving the news: The closure comes after the paper founded by imprisoned tycoon Jimmy Lai had its assets frozen under China's national security law — days after the sweeping led to the arrest last week of five senior Apple Daily executives in a raid by some 500 police officers.

New York to lift mask mandate for vaccinated people
