Biden to visit site of Surfside building collapse

President Biden and first lady Jill Biden will visit Surfside, Florida, on Thursday, nearly a week after the partial collapse of a 12-story residential building that left at least 11 dead and 150 still unaccounted for.

The state of play: Rescue specialists from Israel and Mexico have joined American crews on the sixth day of the search for life. Biden has approved an emergency declaration to provide federal disaster relief to supplement the local response.

  • The White House is coordinating Biden's visit with local officials to avoid delays to the search-and-rescue efforts, per the Miami Herald.

Israel's election: Netanyahu seeks a majority to block his corruption trial

Israelis will go to the polls next Tuesday for the fourth time in two years, with Netanyahu running an aggressive campaign against a splintered opposition.

Why it matters: Netanyahu's narrow path to a 61-seat majority would require him to form an ultra-right-wing government, dependent on the votes of Jewish supremacists and anti-LGBT and pro-annexation members of Knesset. What they're saying: "The more I've focused on this election, the more important I've felt it is both to make sure local counties and states have the resources they need to handle these unprecedented conditions, and that people are aware that the infrastructure is in place to make every vote count so they can accept the result of the election as legitimate," Zuckerberg told Axios.
