WhatsApp sues India's government over new media rules, citing privacy concerns

WhatsApp filed a lawsuit against India's government in the Delhi High Court Wednesday over new rules requiring the company to make users' messages "traceable," per the New York Times.

Why it matters: The Facebook-owned encrypted messaging service says the regulations that take effect Wednesday violate users' privacy, in breach of the country's constitution Reuters reports. The lawsuit is "highly unusual" for WhatsApp, which has "rarely engaged with national governments in court," the NYT notes.

Amanda Gorman, prominent female activists call on Biden to support Afghan women and girls

Prominent women's right advocates, including poet laureate Amanda Gorman, are calling on the Biden administration to protect and support Afghan women and girls and "honor its commitment to gender equity."
