Former President Trump has lost two lead defense attorneys just before pre-trial briefs were due to begin ahead of his upcoming second impeachment trial, CNN first reported Saturday.
Details: The departure of South Carolina lawyers Butch Bowers and Deborah Barbier was a mutual decision, a Trump adviser told CBS News. Trump's trial is due to begin on Feb. 9.
What they're saying: Trump spokesperson Jason Miller said in a statement to news. "The Democrats' efforts to impeach a president who has already left office is totally unconstitutional and so bad for our country.
- "In fact, 45 Senators have already voted that is unconstitutional. We have done much work, but have not made a final decision on our legal team, which will be made shortly."
